Types of Conversions.

Single Garage Conversion.

A standard single garage conversion usually means the original garage door is replaced with a window and brickwork to match the original house windows and brick colour etc. The intention is to create a look inside and out to the casual un-educated observer so that they don't notice that this part of the house was once a cold empty un-loved damp garage!

How to convert a garage whilst leaving a garage Door in place...

If an existing or new roller shutter type garage door is installed the garage conversion can be carried out by leaving the door in place and building a new wall directly behind the garage door (Secret Squirrel room!) . You could have this wall started slightly further into the garage leaving storage space between the new wall and a roller garage door which still leaves you a smaller storage area but you gain a nice new room. In a conservation area this can be more in keeping. Or if you live a small hamlet or a cul-de-sac of similar houses leaving the door(s) in place can be more sympathetic (mind you once your neighbours see how good a job we've done they'll all want one!!)

Part Garage Conversion leaving an internal storage area.

Another method of leaving some storage space for tools or chest freezer etc is to convert the garage from the front but stop short of the back wall and have a sliding door which allows walking into the storage area without taking space from the new room (opening doors loose space). This means you gain a slightly smaller room than a full room conversion but you still maintain a storage area behind smart sliding doors that do not compromise the look of the new room. Having said that if the new room is to be an adult rest room from the children then the hum from a chest freezer unit can be quite meditating .......... Hum mm.. !!

Natural light.

A Integral garage conversion will normally have a large front window. An internal door can have a full height safety glass to give a more light. The opening where the garage door was can be a full glass wall using sliding doors or the latest rail systems which pull the glass units back like curtains to allow a walk out open space from the to the new room.

Garages conversions with pitched roofs can be made to be much bigger by fitting Velux windows in the roof angle which brings the roof space into the room.A Flat roof garage conversion can have dome sky lights. All can have openings for ventilation with blinds etc. Borrowed light can be achieved with modern 'sun-pipes' these are clever light reflecting tubes which bounce light down into a ceiling fitting which look like a large light fitting !

(please Goggle sun pipes)

Open Space Feel.

If the garage is divided off from the kitchen you can remove most of the dividing wall, open up the area and have a huge kitchen come dining area  that even Ramsay or Hugh would be proud of!

Double Garage Conversion.

Side by Side Double garages can have just one side converted with the other half left for car use /and/or storage. Long Double garages can have part of the length converted with the other half left for storage or front car use. Either of the above can have two separate rooms areas. This can be anything you want. A Gym room with separate shower, Bedroom with separate bathroom. A music room with a shower room, in fact we can delver any configuration you can imagine or what you have pinched (inspiration) from the new houses just being built around the corner, (don't forget show house's are open on Saturdays!)

Consumer Units(Gas/Electric)

These meters can disappear by hiding them in made measure cupboards or full room height store cupboards with a door and shelving etc., or if you wish the utility suppliers can re-site the meters to the outside walling in weatherproof purpose made boxes. Which they can be read when you are out.
